HISTORIA
"El 13 de julio del año 2068 la nave de transporte de pasajeros a gran altitud del tipo Alnair 8 sufrió un desastroso accidente a 150 kilómetros de la superficie terrestre, fuera de la atmósfera de la Tierra. Un pequeño tornillo desechado en la órbita de nuestro planeta chocó con violencia causando numerosas muertes. Después de esa tragedia el problema de los residuos espaciales, de la basura espacial, se convirtió por fin en un asunto importante, una prioridad para los paises implicados en la exploración del espacio.
Satélites artificiales abandonados, tanques de combustible vacíos expulsados por cohetes y lanzaderas, escombros y materiales sobrantes de la construcción de estaciones espaciales... Toda esa basura orbitaba la Tierra a una velocidad media de 8 kilómetros por segundo. Y moviéndose a esa velocidad cualquier pequeño fragmento era capaz de causar un serio accidente, un gran desastre al colisionar con una nave espacial. Para evitar que la tragedia del Alnair 8 se repitiera y poder continuar con la exploración y desarrollo espacial se hizo evidente la necesidad de controlar, recoger y eliminar esos residuos.
